Cnoc Tiarnach is an elevated site overlooking the ancient site of Loch Gabhair. Cnoc is the Irish word for Hill. Tigernach Mac Fócartai was King of Loch Gabhair (Lagore) in the 800’s. He inflicted a significant defeat on the Norsemen in an oakwood at Dísert Do-Chonna assisted by Mealduin the High King of Ireland. Tigernach is an old Irish word and the modern Irish version is Tiarnach.
